Poker Game Odds

As one of the fastest growing online gambling games, online poker has grabbed the imaginations of thousands of online gamblers as a game that requires a large amount of understanding, skill, strategy and a bit of luck.

With online poker rooms offering a wide variety of poker games, including Texas Hold'em, 7 Card Stud and Omaha Hi and Lo, it is crucial to understand poker game odds if you want to become a good and consistent online poker player.

Unlike with many other online gambling games, simply by understanding the odds of poker you can give yourself a nice advantage over your fellow players and thus maximize your opportunity of winning.

To start with the basics, standard poker is played with a single deck of 52 cards. This means the odds of getting a specific 'suited' card is 1:52.

The odds of getting a specific 'unsuited' card is 4:52. As more cards are dealt, the odds will shift making the game even more exciting.

You may be surprised to know that there are almost 2.6 million unique hands or options possible in online poker. The hardest or most unlikely combination you can get is the Royal Flush (10, J, Q, K and Ace of the same suit).

The odds of getting a Royal Flush are approximately 1:650 000. This means that if you played 650 000 hands of poker you should get a Royal Flush at least once!

At the other end of the scale, the odds of making a pair are only 1:2. So you can see how understanding online poker odds is important because it lets you know when to fold, bet, check or raise.
